Excellent cross cultural insights, fast paced plot, and very poignant characterization of the two main characters as they try to understand each other. Hulan is a Chinese woman sent as a young teenager to the States where she meets a fellow lawyer named David. His first trip to China is replete with the east/west value conflicts, but as the novels blend into one another, we see him develop in his understanding and appreciation for China. Hulan carries a lot of emotional baggage, which almost jettisons their relationship, but the evil person in the last book actually helps Hulan understand herself better. Really enjoyed all three: different from her more recent work.Product details

All three books are page turners
Great characters and good stories. Lisa See never disappoints.
I enjoy reading all of Lisa See's books. She incorporates a lot of history in her story telling.
She is a great writer and it is easy reading.
I love all of Lisa See's books. They keep your attention while educating you on another life in another country.
All three books were very good. Amazing how it all blended together
Insightful and interesting writing but by third book I found, redundant in setting and a bit too descriptive and drawn out.
Her stories are wonderful and descriptive. You can also learn of the evils of Marxism and lack of freedom.
I never knew much about Chinese culture and it has been a fascinating read.
